TIPS: Christmas is magical for kids of every age. To minimize the stress your child can also experience, keep in mind these tips:

  • Tell young children in advance what to expect at holiday events.
  • Reconnect with holiday traditions. They form many of our warmest memories.
  • Beware of toy overload. (Put some aside to be brought out at a later date.)
  • Don't push kids too far out of their comfort zones. Forcing them to "perform" in front of guests or to kiss people they don't know can backfire.
  • Give kids opportunities to do nice things for others.
