Watch for an opening, then seize the moment. Lead off with... "Can I ask you a question?" or "I've been wondering..." As you talk, keep these tips in mind:

Avoid lecturing, especially when your child sees things different from you. You seldom enjoy talking with a "know it all." Kids don't either. To succeed, cut your speaking in half and quadruple your listening. Relax! |

Say "I don't know" when you don't.. Genuine responses are: "Let me get back to you on that? Great Question!... I need to think about my answer ... I know someone who knows." Etc. |
